We are thrilled to introduce our next Executive Director, Greg Stefanski, who joins QVS this July!

Greg Stefanski
Incoming Executive Director
“I look forward to sharing the lessons I have learned to support the collective effort of building a strong future for QVS. QVS provides such an amazing opportunity for Fellows to deeply get to know themselves and to deeply get to know the communities where they are placed. I see QVS as a gift to the Fellows and the Fellows as a gift to their local community and beyond. It’s a blessing for me to be joining QVS and to be a part of this gift-giving!”
Dear Friends,
As many of you know, our Executive Director, Hilary Burgin, announced her intention to transition out of the Executive Director role at the end of July. After an extensive search process, we are excited to announce the appointment of Greg Stefanski to this position.
Greg has worked in the healthcare, non-profit, and education sectors for more than two decades. He is the former Executive Director for Laraway Youth & Family Services where he directed supportive services for Vermont youth as well as fundraised for new facilities for programming. Greg is active in his local meeting in Burlington, Vermont where he co-clerks their Peace and Justice Committee. We were impressed with his financial acumen, attention to strategic planning, and overall excitement for QVS’s mission. About accepting the role of Executive Director, Greg says, “I look forward to sharing the lessons I have learned to support the collective effort of building a strong future for QVS.
Hilary has spent the last 11 years working for QVS, first as the Boston Coordinator and then as the Executive Director. She has stewarded QVS through times fair and fallow with her deep care for QVS and her skills in leadership and facilitation. When first stepping into the ED role, Hilary shared, “I see first-hand the incredible gift that Quaker Voluntary Service is for the communities and cities we operate in, for the Quaker movement as a whole, and, especially, for the Fellows. Fellows discover options for living a more faithful and integrated life, and are shown a path forward for Spirit-led social justice work.” She has done tremendous work to gift the QVS experience of discovery and transformation for many Fellows during her time at QVS. We are grateful for Hilary’s work and release her into the next phase of her life with appreciation and celebration.
Greg will transition into the Executive Director role starting July 1, with support from Hilary over the next several months. He will take over full time on October 1, 2025.
Please join us in welcoming Greg to his new role!
What sorts of programming and tools are Fellows offered during their year?
Every other week throughout the nine and a half month fellowship, QVS Fellows attend QVS Days instead of working at their site placements.
QVS Days offer Fellows a chance to slow down and be in community. For the first part of the year, QVS staff take the lead in planning and facilitating QVS Days. They support Fellows in exploring their individual and communal journeys, as well as discussing work, community living, Quakerism, spiritual practices, and social justice issues. As the year progresses, Fellows take a more active role in planning and facilitating QVS Days.
Over the course of the year, Fellows learn tools like: clerking and Quaker decision-making processes, clearness committees, conflict transformation, signs of defensiveness, and tons more. Additionally, at the start of the year, Fellows attend a week-long orientation with all QVS Fellows from across the country, as well as a mid-year and a closing retreat with their city cohort.
