Quaker Voluntary Service announces the call for applications to join our founding year of service in Atlanta, GA.

We are seeking out a dynamic group of young people who will form the first class of QVS volunteers beginning service in late August 2012. Might you or someone you know be called to be one of them?

QVS is open to any young person age 21 or older interested in living in intentional Quaker community, experiencing Quaker worship and process, and openly engaging questions of faith and service in the world. The six QVS interns will live together in community, engaging in Quaker spiritual practices and working full time in local organizations that offer direct support to marginalized individuals and communities, and that strive to transform unjust structures. QVS volunteers will receive housing, a stipend for food, transportation and personal expenses, health insurance, training, and spiritual support from QVS.

Click here to apply now – or read on for more information.

Prospective QVS volunteers should want to grow in the areas of spirituality, justice, community, and simplicity.  QVS is open to persons from all spiritual traditions. There is a strong expectation that the community will engage in regular Quaker worship and practice, so volunteers should have a genuine interest in exploring and learning about the Quaker way.  QVS is seeking a diverse group of young adults and encourages applicants to apply regardless of ethnicity, race, creed, culture, disability, faith, economic class, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

This is QVS’ first year, and our pilot program, so prospective volunteers have the opportunity to be a vital part of the continuing development of this next chapter in the story of Quaker service – helping shape the launch of QVS and laying the foundations for transformative service opportunities for years to come. Our experience together will be based in living four core values: Community, Service, Transformation, and the Quaker Way.

And even if this invitation isn’t for you at this time, you can help us in a huge way, right now.

Please spread the word about this exciting opportunity to rediscover and reclaim the living tradition of Quaker service for our time.

Person by person and one faith community at a time, we’re clear that God is drawing us together in support of this leading. We know that with your help, we can bring together an exciting first class of volunteers and translate the QVS vision into reality.

Wherever this message finds you, we hope and pray that you are walking in the Light, and that the Light will bring us together in worship, community, and service – this year in Atlanta, and across North America in the coming years.
